“Choir Girls Two!” presented by Umpqua Community College
“Choir Girls Two!” – Sunday, May 31, 2015, at 1 pm. Have you been waiting for the sequel to Choir Girls? Well here it is, Choir Girls Two! An opening preview performance will be held at the Pacific Auditorium, 2260 Longwood in Reedsport. Under the direction of Dr. Jason Heald, Director of Music at Umpqua Community College, this production is the second installment of the original play. The play is part of the August 2015 “Oregon Music Theatre Festival” in Roseburg and continues the story of the zany gals who are practicing their choir choices at St. Paul in the Mall. Amid filling their lives with humor, excitement, passion, as well as confusion, they work it during their rehearsals with sacred and secular musical parodies, while mixing the sounds of classic Broadway, Motown, and reggae. Choir Girls leaves no doubt that sometimes as you reach out to the Almighty you still need a great deal of assistance.
Jason Heald has written a book for the play. He and the cast will be available after the production to discuss the play and its qualities with the audience.
The production is sponsored by Coastal Douglas Arts and Business Alliance and Rising Tide Live!. Tickets are $5.00 and are available at the door. For additional information contact Joe Coyne at 541-271-2103.

First Friday to feature Watercolorist, Carole Hillsbery
CDABA is pleased to present Carole Hillsberry, a nationally acclaimed watercolorist, at its Friday Friday . . . Art is for Everyone event. The Lower Umpqua Hospital is hosting this event on Friday, June 5, 2015 between 5-7 pm.
Carole paints watercolors that are fresh and colorful. Painting in an impressionist style, she wants her “colors and shapes to evoke a sense of playfulness and joy in the viewer.” Her works include landscapes and seascapes, flowers, boats, and animals. Carole considers herself a story teller and invites the viewer to “look for the underlying idea she is sharing” in her paintings.
Carole found her chosen art medium after taking a workshop from Katheryn Davis and now conducts workshops for all levels. She finds that most students “want to learn how to paint more freely” and she gives them “many exciting techniques to inspire” them.
Carole is a prolific painter and has been entering competitions since 2003. Her paintings are exhibited at Earthworks Gallery in Yachats, the Mindpower Gallery in Reedsport, and she has been a featured artist at the Backstreet Gallery in Florence. Carole is a strong supporter of the Rotary Club of Florence and was recently seen creating a painting live during a fundraising reception. That painting was then auctioned on the spot.
The event is free and family friendly. The next First Friday event will be held on July 10th [not date change] at the Myrtlewood Gallery in Reedsport, OR. The event will also be a celebration of the Myrtlewood Gallery’s 30th year doing business in Reedsport.
For more information about CDABA or its First Friday events, please contact Kathleen Miller at 541-271-2101 or by email at email@example.com. Also contact Kathleen if you are an artist, crafter, author, photographer or other hand made artist and would like to participate in Reedsport’s annual spring Art Walk on Saturday, June 20th (10 am to 5 pm) for more information.
