Reedsport Farmers Market is fast approaching its second year of
operation. We will continue to bring Reedsport a great selection of local Organic, Certified Naturally Grown, as well as traditionally grown fruits and vegetables. There will be fresh baked bread, salsa, chocolate, and humus again this year. New additions to the market will include local eggs, fair trade raw honey, and our art/craft vendors will return. There is also a knife sharpener vendor so start gathering up your scissors, knives, and garden implements and bring them in to be sharpened!

A community booth is available for non-profit organizations to participate in the market by teaching canning, healthy food choices and other educational information or services their organizations provide. Look for children’s events this spring and summer including farmers market poster competition and zucchini car races. July 4th brings a special celebration by the market vendors and a patriotic quilt will be raffled off A chili cook off is in the works and will take place in August. And a classic car show is in
the planning stages. Keep an eye peeled on Old Town Reedsport and
mark your calendars for every Friday starting May 15th through October from 9am to 5pm because the Reedsport Farmers Market is going to be a Overall, one of the biggest reasons for the market’s success is due to our continued efforts to advertise and promote the market. We do so by advertising in the local newspaper, distributing posters throughout the communities of Reedsport, Gardner, Winchester Bay, Lakeside, Scottsburg, and Drain. We also paid for advertising on coffee mugs that are at a local restaurant. We ran adds on our Facebook site that reached all the way East into the I-5 Corridor, South to Coquille, and North to Florence. We paid for a permanent billboard advertisement at a local grocery store. We also sought out sponsors to help us. In return we adver-
tised their businesses on vinyl banners at the market and on our website

Continued advertising and promotion of the market helped people become more aware of the market and resulted in bringing over 18,393 people to the market. Sales totaled over $77,340 for the season. This is a giant infusion of cash to our local Reedsport economy that wasn’t there the year before. It was definitely a “win-win” event. Farmers, vendors, customers, local businesses benefited from the market as well as the people of.

All this advertising and promoting takes money and the market is a
non-profit operation depending mostly on donations. While the vendors do pay a small rent fee for their spaces, this money is relegated to insurance and daily market to market operation expenses.

That is why we would like to ask you for your financial support by making a cash donation to be used primarily for advertising and/or promotion costs.

By partnering with us, you can help us to bring this worthwhile event to our community again this year. Please consider a cash donation and we want you to know that your donation is greatly appreciated. Your checks should be made payable to OTRMA, and mailed to PO Box 543, Reedsport, Oregon 97467.
